Viet Nam remains UN's important partner

Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed said Viet Nam is one of the UN's important partners, expressing her wish that the Southeast Asian country would coordinate with the UN in implementing its agenda.

Ms. Mohammed made the above statement during her meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai in New York, the U.S. on April 5.

Le, for his part, reaffirmed Viet Nam's consistent support for multilateralism, rule based international order, the UN Charter, and the central role of the UN in global governance system to deal with common challenges.

Viet Nam also supports and is determined to realize the sustainable development goals and the UN's initiatives to soon achieve sustainable development goals, Le said.

He suggested the UN gives priority to assisting Viet Nam in mobilizing financial resources, accessing to technologies, knowledge and best practices, especially in climate change adaptation, management of water resources, energy transition, innovation, and digital transformation.

Mohammed affirmed that the UN agencies stand ready to assist Viet Nam in the areas proposed by Le in a bid to help Viet Nam achieve its development goals, particularly energy transition and climate change goals.

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister Le visited Cornell Tech – the newest campus of Cornell University, during which he suggested the University continue stepping up cooperation with Vietnamese universities./.
