To synchronously and effectively implement solutions against IUU fishing

Although ministries and localities have actively implemented tasks and solutions against IUU fishing to overcome shortcomings and limitations as recommended by the EC, up to now, a number of related key and urgent tasks have not guaranteed progress as directed by the Prime Minister.

In Quang Ngai, in 2023, the province synchronously and drastically implemented urgent tasks and solutions to overcome the recommendations of the EC.

In particular, the communication of fisheries laws was implemented with many appropriate forms to raise awareness for people, ship owners, captains in combating IUU fishing. 

The management of the fleet and the monitoring, inspection and control of fishing vessels have gradually been improved.

By the end of 2023, over 2,940 fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more had installed cruise monitoring devices (VMS), reaching a rate of 99.29%. No more fishing vessels violate fishing in foreign waters.

The functional units strengthened inspection and controlled fishing vessels arriving and disembarking as a basis for certification of fishery origin according to regulations.

In particular, over the past year, Quang Ngai province has drastically implemented law enforcement work in combating IUU fishing.

The provincial leaders also made a list of fishing vessels at risk of violations, organized propaganda to each family, oblige ship owners to sign commitments and take preventive measures.

In order to achieve the goal and determination to remove the "Yellow Card" warning in 2024, the National Steering Committee requested relevant ministries and localities to focus on leading and directing to definitively resolve the shortcomings and limitations as recommended by the EC at the 4th inspection (in October 2023), and to ensure specific results and data to work with the 5th EC Inspection Team scheduled for April 2024.
