The 61st Tien Phong Marathon to be postponed until May due to the 2019 novel coronavirus

​Reportedly, the event is scheduled to be held in Ly Son Island, Quang Ngai province on 22 March 2020.

First held in Hanoi in 1958, Tien Phong Marathon is a prestigious tournament with a long history. Being a top sporting event, the tournament has been integrated into Vietnam’s official athletics competition system for the last 50 years, and it is held annually at the end of March.

This year, the 61^st Tien Phong Marathon, co-organized by the Tien Phong newspaper, the Viet Nam Athletics Federation and Quang Ngai Department of Culture and Sports, is expected to attract thousands of local and foreign athletes. Professionals athletes will compete in four distances of 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km, while amateur runners can compete in three distances of 10km, 21km and 42km.

This is the first time a National Marathon Championship will be held on Ly Son island, some 18 nautical miles east offshore Quang Ngai mainland. Participants will have a wonderful experience on the coastal roads. They will run through coconut and pine groves, via beautiful onion and garlic fields and will have to face challenges against wind, sunlight and slopes. Runners will also have a chance to run through the beautiful relics of Ly Son island such as Câu Cave, An Hai Village temple and Tam Toa temple, etc.
