Provincial leader checks the anti-IUU fishing work in Quang Ngai city

Reportedly, Quang Ngai city has focused on the management of the "3 no" vessels and vessels at high risk of IUU violations.

At the same time, the city also directs localities to coordinate with Sa Ky Port Border Guard Station to organize dialogue conferences with "3 no" fishing vessel owners in order to carry out propaganda and advocacy for fishermen to understand legal regulations while participating in fishing activities at sea.

For the fishing vessels with high risk of violating IUU fishing, the Border Guard has implemented close inspection and control before the fishing vessels leave port, and  handled violations of IUU fishing according to the provisions of law.

After paying actual inspection, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien recognized and appreciated the participation of the Quang Ngai city’s Party Committee, government and coastal communes for coordinating with the Border Guard force and functional forces in combating IUU fishing.

He asked them to strengthen law enforcement to ensure patrol, inspection and control at sea, at sea gates and fishing ports to ensure that IUU fishing violations are detected and prevented.

It is expected that by the end of April 2024, the European Commission's Inspection Team (EC) will conduct its 5th inspection on compliance with regulations against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU).

This is an opportunity for Vietnam to remove the "yellow card" on fishing.

Therefore, coastal localities in Quang Ngai province are implementing solutions to propagate, inspect and resolutely not let "3 no" fishing vessels go to sea. In addition, they do not let any fishing vessels violate IUU regulations,  especially violations of foreign waters.
