Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha asks localities to ensure resources for the implementation of policies towards the elderly

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Chairman of the Viet Nam National Committee on Ageing (VNCA) organized a nationwide online conference to summarize the work in 2023, orientations and tasks in 2024. 
The country has about 16.1 million elderly people, accounting for 16% of the population.
Of those, about 2.6 million are aged 80 and over. 10.3 million elderly people live in rural areas.
The average life expectancy was 73.6 years.
In 2023, VNCA advised the Government to promulgate many guidelines and policies focusing on the care and promotion of the role of the elderly.
It helped the elderly access public transport, culture, sports, tourism, social security, health care, legal aid and basic social services...
More than 1.5 million old people receive monthly allowances and health insurance cards in the country.
About 10,000 old people are being nurtured and cared for at social assistance facilities.
More than 14 million old people have health insurance cards.
In 2024, VNCA will continue to chair and coordinate in organizing the implementation of the Elderly Law and the National Action Program on elderly in the period of 2021 - 2030.
It will promote the socialization and development of social work services.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha asked localities to ensure resources for the implementation of policies towards the elderly.
Policies on this group of people require a long-term vision with the elderly’s lives and health.
He urged ministries, agencies, localities, and the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (VAE) to propose the Politburo to issue a relevant resolution in the new situation.
VNCA members should step up their coordination in inspection and supervision over the implementation of the National Action Programme for the Elderly for 2021-2030.
