Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Production Complex Project is expected to be built on an area of ​​more than 283 hectares, located in 2 communes Binh Dong and Binh Thuan, Binh Son district, with a design capacity of 5.6 million tons of steel / year, total investment is about 62 trillion dong.

The project continues to use specialized ports of Complex 1 and General Terminal - container to receive ships with a maximum tonnage of 100 thousand tons, employing about 7,000 500 employees.

Steel production projects with a closed production cycle, by-products created in the production stages are recovered and put as raw materials for the previous stages.

In terms of environmental treatment, production wastewater is treated to meet standards, then reused to water plants, wash roads and replenish water to slag, cool equipment.

Flue gas of furnace, blast furnace coal gas is desulfurized, dust filtered to meet discharge standards and reused.

Blast furnace slag, steel slag is finely ground, used as an additive for cement, unburnt brick for factories.

The technology selected when implementing project 2 is the closed cycle metallurgy plant, going from imported iron ore and grease coal.

However, the project has not clearly described the connection between the stages and has not mentioned energy saving technologies and minimizing emissions.

The issue of environmental impact is the content concerned by many reviewers. Comments all said that metallurgical production always has negative factors affecting the environment if not given due attention because the project has to process a large amount of iron ore, coal, and limestone so it can be consumed quite a lot of energy, emitting large amounts of gas, solid and liquid waste.

Investors need to have appropriate solutions to achieve commitment to environmental protection.

Regarding the market and the effectiveness of the project, experts also said that the plan presented in the report is the optimal market scenario.

However, to consider the economic efficiency in different conditions, it is recommended that the project additionally calculate the possible scenarios when the steel market fluctuates in a negative direction.
