RIVERS

In Quang Ngai, rivers and streams are distributed relatively evenly. The rivers have some characteristics such as: origin from east of Truong Son Range and discharge to sea; The river flows in two complex hilly terrain and shallow plains; short river and large riverbed.

 

Quang Ngai has 4 main rivers:

 

Tra Bong River is 45km long, basin area 56km, basin area 697km2, basin average width 12.4km.

 

Tra Khuc River is 135km, basin 123km, basin area 3,240km2, basin average 26.3km.

 

Song Ve: 90km long, basin area of ​​1,260km2, basin length of 70km, average catchment area of ​​18km.

 

Tra Que river: 32 km in length, 19 km in length, basin area of ​​442 km2, average river basin area of ​​14 km.

 

In addition, there are some small rivers, tributaries.

 

In mountainous areas (2/3 of the province), there are many small and large streams that provide abundant water for economic activities and daily life.

 

LAGOONS

​In Quang Ngai province, there are 3 natural lagoons: Salt Water, An Khe, Lam Binh.

 

Salt water

 

It is located in Pho Thanh commune (Duc Pho district) with a total area of ​​about 150ha. This is a lagoon-style lagoon, open to the sea at Sa Huynh gates. It is a lake with high salinity both in dry season and rainy season, so named as Salt Water. This lagoon can only cultivate saltwater aquaculture and salt making. So long ago the people here have exploited part of the area of ​​the lake to make salt.

 

An Khe Lagoon

 

It belongs to Pho Khanh commune (Duc Pho district). According to a scientific report on the investigation of salinity intrusion in the coastal area of ​​Quang Ngai, conducted by the Central Meteorological and Hydrological Station in 1998, it was found that during rainy season, the water quality in the lagoon was insignificant brackish water pond, the salinity from 0.3 to 10 ‰.

 

Lâm Bình lagoon

 

It is located in Pho Cuong commune (Duc Pho district), has low salinity, usually ranges from 0.2 to 0.3 ‰; In the dry season, the dryest months are completely dry.

 

According to the master plan for aquaculture in 2002, An Khe and Lam Binh lagoons have a total area of ​​over 300ha, which can be used for freshwater and marine aquaculture and environmental improvement in the area.
