Dung Quat port complex is planned to include a port for tankers of 80,000-110,000DWT at Viet Thanh bay, a general port with able to receive 50,000DWT ships on the left bank of the Dap river, and specialized ports for shipbuilding and steel factories. Beside, a container terminal will be built inside the Dung Quat economic zone for serving large ships of 100,000-150,000DWT.
 

The complex port is designed to have an annual throughput of 20 million tons of cargo by 2010 and 34 million tons by 2020.

 

 

I. Operation ports:

  

 

1. Gemadept-Dung Quat International Port

 

 

 

 

Put in operation early May 2009, Gemadept-Dung Quat International Port has to date welcomed 7 commercial vessels, said Gemadept-Dung Quat International Port Join Stock Company (GMD-Dung Quat). Within three years of construction, 90% of schedule for the first-stage-construction-port has been covered, which cost around 350 billion dong. So far, over 23,000 tons of cargos have been im-exported via the port. The deep-water Gemadept-Dung Quat International Port is licensed to be built on area of 12 in Dung Quat Economic Zone (DQEZ), Quang Ngai province.Capitalized at total of 575 billion dong, the two-phase-construction-port is to be composed of berth, warehouses and marine facilities, ect. The port, once in full operation, will be able to accommodate container ships and bulk carriers of up to 30,000 DWT, and is subsequently the largest port in the central region.

 

 

2. Dung Quat Port No.1

 

 

 

 

 Dung Quat Port is located in Dung Quat Economic Zone, central Quang Ngai Province and is 120 km off Da Nang City to the south. Dung Quat Port is designed to have an oil port to serve Dung Quat oil refinery, a general port for Dung Quat economic zone and Quang Ngai province, and a specialised port for shipbuilding and repairing. Currently, Wharf 1 has been put into operation and is serving ships of 10,000 DWT. In the future, the wharf can handle ships of 20,000 DWT and 50,000 DWT.

 

 

3. Doosan-Vina Port

 

 

 

 

The port is invested and built by Doosan Heavy Industry and Construction Co., Ltd serving the complex’s im-export activities and is located in Dung Quat Economic Zone.

 

 

5. Sa Ky Port

 

 

 

Port’s location is in Dinh Tan hamlet, Binh Chau, Binh Son, Quang Ngai. Maximum size of vessel accepted : 1.000DWT. Main services: Cargo handling, bagging, tallying warehousing, transporting, and other marine services.

 

        II. Orient

 

Quang Ngai Government plans to build Dung Quat Port No.2 in Dung Quat Economic Zone for the sake of heavy industry. The Port No.2 shall be dedicated for those industries of refining, petrochemical, building ship, making steel and heavy equipments.

So far, over 25 positions in the zone have been surveyed, of which My Han Bay is said to be deep enough to welcome vessels 250,000- 300,000 DWT.
